About 30,000 fans packed Houston Raceway Park for the NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals finals under sun and clouds. A light breeze kept temperatures in the high 70s and traffic flowed smoothly, according to track general manager Seth Angel.
Times reports hot temperatures and smooth traffic with no incidents aside from a morning train on tracks where it shouldn’t be. Drivers praised conditions as their first hot weather tuning opportunity this two month season, though J R Todd failed to qualify for today’s eliminations. See finals page 9A.

At Fort Anahuac Park, Grady Lee stirs dough while blacksmith Cowboy Szymanski and riders stage a 19th century scene. The Saturday event aimed to reconnect children with history amid modern commerce, as bells ring and a crowd gathers at the staged luncheon.
