Rep Hob Eckhardt urged funding for an evaluation project approved by Congress last year but missing from the Corps of Engineers budget. Mayor Tom Gentry sent a statement urging aid. She described abandoned homes, makeshift levees, dying vegetation and encroaching bay waters, saying the situation is desperate and damages families and local business.
