Tobacco Firms Vow To Honor Voluntary Ad Code
Major tobacco companies will remain with the industry's voluntary advertising code after Lorillard’s withdrawal over tar and nicotine labeling. Administrator Robert Meyner said Lorillard never sought permission for such labeling, while American Tobacco and U S Tobacco were rejected for lack of supporting data. Other members including Brown & Williamson, Liggett Myers, Philip Morris, RJ Reynolds, and Stephano Brothers will continue under the code, formed after the Surgeon General linked smoking to lung cancer.
