Seven Jurors Appointed in Pierson Murder Trial

Houston March 30 Sp Seven jurors were selected by midnight Tuesday in the Clyde Pierson murder trial in Judge Langston King’s district court. Defense attorney D Dick Little rejected all 12 prospective jurors. Pierson’s defense centers on self defense in the November 1952 glub 25 Old Main killing of gambler George Hoppe. A prior trial ended in a hung jury. Pierson appeared wan as the proceedings began. Little’s bid for a postponement over a missing witness was denied.

Cool Front Advances Through Texas Coast

United Press reports a cool front moving south toward the Texas coast with a new weather system from the west may trigger scattered showers across much of the state. Dalhart posted 18 degrees, the state’s coldest, as the cold snap spread south for a gradual cool down with no dramatic drops expected. An upper level trough from the west was near Arizona and expected to reach West Texas by Wednesday.

Man Shot On Pleasure Pier Sues For $42,750

Edward Reedy an 18 year old from Galveston filed a suit against the Galveston Pier Corporation for 42750 dollars alleging a July shooting by watchman Regis Dubé as Reedy entered the Pleasure Pier. Dubé worked for the Pier Corp which operates the pier. The incident happened in the afternoon.

Baytown Voters Set For Bond Tax Vote On School District

Baytown residents will vote Saturday on authorizing the consolidated Goose Creek Cedar Bayou district to assume debts and levy a school tax of 41.5 cents and a college tax of 20 cents to fund operations. The consolidated district totals 3,841,060 in debt and Lee College 276,000. Eleven ballot boxes will be available and voters must prove eligibility with sworn statements.
