At Lee College during an annual meeting Roy Comeaux presiding, two tires were hidden in the parking lot amid prior thefts of hubcaps. A male student was struck near his car while lighting upgrades plan to curb crime. AAR Electric wins a 33,300 contract to install three new poles and mercury lamps to illuminate the lot.
The school hearing on ouster of Superintendent George H. Gentry stretched over months with testimony ended Jan. 22 and a board vote Feb. 34 to fire him. Board attorney Hippard says the transcript and exhibits were mailed to the Texas Education Agency in Austin, but agency official Olsson says he has not received them. Gentry has appealed, and the commissioner will hear the case, with an appeal possible to the State Board of Education.
President Johnson announced in May that four Ku Klux Klan members were arrested in Alabama for conspiracy in the killing of Viola Liuzzo, a Detroit mother of five, following a rights march. He praised FBI agents for the arrests and spoke on television with Attorney General Katzenbach and FBI Director Hoover present.
An attractive Detroit mother, Vieja Gregor Liuzzo, 39, was shot to death while driving near Lowndesboro during a civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery. LeRoy Seton, 21, a local organizer, was with her. authorities opened investigations as violence marked the campaign.
Jim Ainsworth of 114 Long Drive has been reelected president of the Baytown Junior Chamber of Commerce. Other officers named include Joe Hayes as first vice president Jim Hodges as second vice president Elmo Reynolds as third vice president Gene Webb as secretary and Jack Bowles as treasurer. Directors named Randy Wallace Hal Cook Robert Koepke Jerry Coon and Bambi Rios. The club plans increased community service and memberships with a goal of 200 members, aiming to continue growth from the past three months. Participants ages 16 to 21 will work part time to return to or stay in school.

Baytown council approves revised Spur 201 plans to add an off ramp for the new civic center and discusses moving MoPac tracks in a master plan. State highway officials want quick city input as the plan calls for routing MoPac traffic over Southern Pacific tracks.
