Mary Kay Ash and the rise of a women led empire
Mary Kay Ash, former World Gifts sales associate, started her cosmetics company in 1963 with $5,000, building a women empowering business model that offered consultants ownership, commissions, and pink Cadillacs. The firm grew to over 2.2 billion in annual sales, with Ash stepping down as CEO in 1987 and later supporting cancer research and domestic violence causes until her death in 2001. Heather Betancourth serves on Baytown City Council, District 4.
