New and higher supports for soybeans raise the price per acre to about 2.30 this year, part of a plan to divert land to soy and discourage overproduction. The act allows up to 20 acres to retire under lower retirement rates and foreign aid programs, aiming to boost exports of soybeans and related products.

Dr. M. Jack Suggs, Texas Christian University professor and former First Christian Church pastor, will conduct a six day revival at First Christian Church beginning Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. each evening. He holds a PhD from Duke and has been a TCU NT professor since 1956.

Baytown prepares for two dedications in early April. On April 5 a ceremony will unveil a plaque for Congressman Albert Thomas at Thomas Circle, honoring his work on the Baytown Post Office addition. The new post office addition, 9,280 square feet, will house all federal offices in the area and include air conditioning.
Odessa AP report outlines a 17 year old, Mack Herring, charged with murder after he shot Elizabeth Jean Williams 17, in a pond near Winkler County. He claimed she asked him to do it and held the gun to her temple before he fired.
Miss Humble Day and Little Miss Humble Day selections will be at 2 30 p m Saturday May 13 at the Humble Recreation Club during Humble Day festivities. Contest rules require Little Miss entrants to be related to a Humble Club member and aged three to six. Jewel Summersill is contest chairman with information via Extension 418 or her home. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for first second and third places.
Baytown's economy shows improvement as 158 workers return to United Rubber and Chemical Co.'s Baytown plant after a three week layoff begin March 6. Unemployment figures for March expected to fall, with 296 total employees at the plant and a note that weather could boost activity. Duram of the Texas Employment Commission cites continued decline in jobless claims, while February data show 311 new applications and 3,038 processed claims. Plant officials say the shutdown was due to market conditions and other tuber products plants curtailed operations, focusing on reducing excess inventories while shipping, service, and R and D continue.
