The Sun continues its annual series on area growth with the third installment outlining developments inside the industry sector. It surveys key firms, economic drivers, and workforce trends shaping the region's economic trajectory.
The Chambers County Sheriff reports an armed homeowner in the Pine Meadows subdivision confronted two men attempting to kick in his front door. He provided a description of the suspects and their vehicle, leading to their arrests and booking into Chambers County Jail after the 911 call at 10:37 a.m. on Monday.
The city plans a March training drive to certify 140 potential lifeguards for Calypso Cove and Pirates Bay. American Red Cross Lifeguard classes run 4 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and weekend sessions at the Baytown Community Center, with sessions spanning May through August.
A 12 year old girl was attacked by a pit bull mix in Baytown near St Andrews Street about 4 50 p m. She was flown to a Houston hospital by Life Flight. Baytown Police Det Brian Parker says two dogs were involved but only one bit the girl. See dog page 10.

Cedar Bayou Navigation District met for its regular monthly session with updates on discussions with the Corps of Engineers and continued support for the Chambers Recovery Team. Attorney J W Johnson said a draft environmental study for proposed dredging includes straightening in some places and looks good. Project manager Guido Persiani discussed cost estimates and the possibility of lower costs based on final plans. Major Greg Couturier, new Corps liaison, was introduced and noted cost differences between final versus preliminary plans. See update on page 8.
