Harlem Elementary School students from prekindergarten to fifth grade collected 3329.51 dollars this year to benefit St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A Baytown junior student’s unplanned pregnancy and the center’s work highlight how many young women face unplanned pregnancies. JoAnne Lippo, executive director, notes the center provides counseling and options, including keeping the baby, adoption, or abortion, with a listening, compassionate approach.
More than 1,000 people from Baytown and beyond joined Emma’s Bayou Bash Bike Ride Rally BBQ and Benefit to aid Emma Dunnam a little girl fighting Batten Disease. Organizers said over 250 bikers rode from San Jacinto Harley Davidson to Eastside Honda with support from volunteers and out of town supporters including Daniel Ray Rivas who traveled 140 miles. Local musicians performed as funds raised cover medical and therapy expenses.
Lee College regents plan to consider adding two associate degree programs in kinesiology health and kinesiology recreation. The proposals note rising obesity rates and growth in fitness and leisure careers and say current faculty can implement the two-year degrees and allow transfer to a four-year program. Also on the agenda: reappoint auditing firm Louvorn Kieschnick LLP and renew the small business development center contract with the university.
