Alice Feinberg announces combined House of Fashion and Junior World under one roof in Baytown. She cites easier parking, unchanged merchandise, and a more comfortable shopping experience for both brands with a dedicated Junior World area. She invites customers to visit and see the new layout as Easter Spring and Summer merchandise arrives.
Pre registration for delegates to the annual District 22 Conference of the Parent Teacher Association is planned for March 26 and 27 at the Rice Hotel in Houston. Mrs D W Trunson will handle registration with Mrs Transon Baytown council PTA president on the committee. other roles include publicity by Mrs H L Wert and workshops by Mrs Richard Battarbee and Mrs George Edwards. The conference features business meetings leadership training and educational experiences. Last year more than 700 attended. this year’s theme is A Better PTA Stronger U S A beginning at 1 pm March 26 in the Rice Hotel grand ballroom. A pre conference directors meeting is at 1 am in the Persian Room. Life membership will be presented at the banquet with Rev Jouzan Riggs Jr as guest speaker. The third session at 9 am March 27 features Jean Harris of Aqua Dulce as speaker, followed by workshops and a presidents lunch at 12 15 pm. Final session begins at 1 45 pm with a student panel and public displays in the Sam Houston room.
The Baytown Genealogical Society will meet with the Gulf Coast Genealogical Society on March 25 at Mrs. Lynn Seanar's home. Mrs. Mark Carter, president, led the recent Sterling Municipal Library session. Visitor Mrs. E. L. McCullough attended. Members were told three rolls of Louisiana Census microfilm and a Georgia Marriage records volume from 1763 to 1820 were bought for the library.
The Associated Press notes that many women mayors come from community work and teaching backgrounds, often being the sole female on the council and the first woman to run for mayor. They describe open-door governance, ceremonial duties, and challenges balancing femininity with authority, with examples from Norma Handloff of Newark Delaware and others across Monterey California Santa Fe Springs California Claremont New Hampshire.
The Baytown Community Concert Association launches its membership drive with a 7 p.m. dinner at the Tower, where New York booking agency staff will speak and new officers will be introduced. Goals include 1,000 members with concerts at Ross Sterling High School on Saturdays and a Don Shirley Trio scheduled. Memberships are 38 for adults and 4 for students, funds supporting artists and expenses. Galveston Association reciprocity allows Baytown members to attend Galveston concerts.
A long list of meetings for Tuesday through Thursday includes San Jacinto PTA Psi Alpha BSP and other groups. Activities span Community Building and Tower venues with 7:30 p.m. starts, plus Lakewood Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution events in Bayshore and Goose Creek areas.
