Repairs found armored rock missing at San Jacinto site
Management of Texas reports six areas of the containment structure missing armored rock though the geotex tile liner remained intact in all affected zones and no material was exposed. Damages to the armored cap were found a second time in three months with a trapezoidal 25 by 22 foot area repaired. The armored cap built in 2011 covers about 15 acres and consists of 59,000 tons of stone and geotextile layers over the former PCB and dioxin site near Highlands just north of I-10 bridge. EPA plans a long term remedy to be announced later this year as it continues Superfund cleanup.
