Literacy volunteers honored in Baytown library ceremony
Sterling Municipal Library's Literacy Volunteers program celebrated a tutor and student at a ceremony led by Martha Moreno, a program graduate and hospital supervisor. Gladys Hood received the Helen Reilly Award for outstanding volunteer work, while Cox A/C and Exxon Mobil funded a $4,000 air conditioning unit for a Bay Area Homeless Services dormitory, shortening completion. SALT donated to four area charities including Turning PO LNT and Baytown Parks and Recreation for programs aiding disabled individuals. Primary turnout was low amid confusing party primaries, with some voters delayed or turned away, prompting hopes for better planning by November. The Sun invites reader sympathy and submissions for Cheers and Jeers.
