Poverty boards politicized as voters stay away
Fulton Lewis reports anti poverty officials are alarmed by dismal turnout in elections to elect poor representatives to local anti poverty boards. Large campaigns costs yielded scant participation, with examples from Southern California Kansas City Cleveland Philadelphia and San Francisco. Officials blame cold weather welfare deliveries and ineffective outreach. The Dallas State Fair theme for October centers on Young America with exhibits for youth.
