The Houston Ship Channel disruption from a Monday collision of the Danish Maersk Carla Maersk and Liberian Conti Peridot spilled methyl tert butyl ether MTBE. Crews closed 4 to 8 miles of the channel as they assess flammability and toxicity while monitoring air and water for contamination. No injuries or public shelter orders were reported.
Burglary of a building reported in the 2400 block of West Main Street between 4 p.m. last Tuesday and 10 a.m. Monday. A burglary of a motor vehicle occurred in the 5400 block of Interstate 10 with tires valued at $2,500 taken. A theft in the 5400 block of Bayway Drive involved fishing rods and reels worth $400. At 1:45 p.m. Monday a theft in the 6500 block of Garth Road saw a man and woman steal two pairs of tennis shoes and shirts totaling $300 from a department store. Theft in the 3800 block of Cary Creek Drive involved copper valued at $1,800. A theft in the 600 block of Rollingbrook Drive reported power tools worth $1,100 stolen.
The Baytown police reported 29 offenses over Monday and Tuesday mornings including two assaults four burglaries of motor vehicles two criminal mischief cases one forgery one robbery one sexual assault and six thefts. Nine other arrests and three reports were filed along with eight vehicle accidents.
A motor vehicle burglary occurred in the 7200 block of Garth Road. Stolen items included any automobile and power tools totaling $20,000 in value.
