Mrs Mary M Sherman pioneer resident of Anahuac dies at 7 30 pm Friday in Chambers Memorial Hospital after a heart attack. Oil workers union extends talks at Humble Baytown refinery
Negotiators from the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers union voted Friday night to extend contract talks for 30 days after a bargaining session with Humble Refining Co officials. A meeting of union members is planned next Tuesday night to decide on resuming talks, with no new meetings announced yet. International rep. J. Eric Brown said talks are not progressing slowly and that some issues were agreed upon. The union sought to reopen the contract in January to improve terms for supervisors and other workers, noting no new hires since negotiations began and that new employees would be added only if an agreement is reached.

Carver High School expansion bids revealed
School trustees will consider awarding a contract for a gym and six classrooms at Carver High School. Bids opened Friday show P G Bell Construction Co of Houston as the apparent low bidder at 224400 while Pruett Construction Co of Baytown bid 252218 the highest. The project is funded by a 500000 bond issue approved last year and Carver’s portion runs about 240000.
