In a tense standoff, Deputy Evans was released from hospital hours after admission while Marcantel remained hospitalized. Dozens of shots were fired during the exchange, with officials unsure of the trigger. Nearby resident Lillian Presley reported a Dayton ISD bus overturned in a ditch at about 6 am, and an automated message had told parents buses would not run in Woodland Hills. Presley said students were on board, and she waited outside with a crossbow, praising deputies and noting the coordinated response of law enforcement teams.
