State hospital discharge leads to death at Greyhound station
Raquel Padilla, diagnosed with schizophrenia and mild retardation, was discharged from the San Antonio State Hospital and left at a downtown Greyhound station. She died three days later in a concrete ditch after never boarding the bus home to Del Rio. The incident is part of nearly 600 patient discharges to bus stations since January 2008. Hospital superintendent Bob Arizpe said staff followed procedure and observed Padilla in line for a bus on December 20.
