Students learn humanity through quilts in Harlem schools
Nearly 30 Harlem Elementary School fourth grade GATE students in Goose Creek ISD turned a math project on fractions area and perimeter into a labor of love by making quilts for cancer patients. They discovered several patients were people they knew or would meet, surprising teachers and expanding the project beyond numbers. The quilts feature colorful fabric squares with names and hobbies as a decorative tribute.

Six months later death unsolved in Houston
Houston police still seek the driver in the hit and run death of 19 year old Lauren Kay Wallace of Anahuac six months after the Sept 5 incident on East Freeway. Friends held a memorial at San Jacinto Cemetery releasing 100 balloons with zebra tags bearing quotes from Lauren and her diary. Police distributed 800 Crime Stoppers flyers in the area as the investigation continues.
