Texas Youth Commission abuse probe heats up in Texas
A March 9 2005 e mail shows officials discussing the alleged cover up at the West Texas facility. Whitmire says investigators pursued documents while the Texas Rangers led the probe. Former superintendent and a principal left their posts in 2005 without charges. The Senate and House committees plan a joint inquiry into how long board members knew of abuse claims and what actions followed.

The piece highlights community bonds and the church’s role in local memory.
