Bayland Island development history and bids summarized
Bayland Island became a focal point for waterfront plans starting with a 31 acre site bought in 1970 for parkland. Voters approved a 1991 bond of 4.7 million for a marina and convention complex, while a 1995 loan funded a restaurant and infrastructure. The city later faced construction flaws and a 1.2 million settlement with developers. In 2002 bids for Ninfa's Rest and a 40 year lease surfaced, with a second bid round offering a 3.7 million full-property option under parkland designation restrictions.
