Roasted fundraiser tops Bay Area Homeless Services event
The Bay Area Homeless Services Mane Event raised funds through live and silent auctions and sponsorships at Sylvan Beach Pavilion La Porte. Roastee Chris Navarre president of Navarre Funeral Home faced jokes from Rev. John Newsome and Baytown official Burnside as officials praised local pie maker Helen Smith and Nancy Hall for long service to BAHS and community groups. The event aimed for an $80,000 total with figures to be tallied early next week.

BAHS shelter helps family rebuild after housing crisis
Hale and her children found refuge at the Britton-Fuller Family Center after losing their home when it was sold. BAHS officials note the center’s design supports families with teenage children, offering apartment-style rooms and space for homework. Hale now works at Waterford on Baker Road and her kids attend Goose Creek CISD schools, with ongoing Beacon Law and ExxonMobil support assisting her in securing a new apartment.
