The municipal development district board will fund 60 percent of a new Northeast District wastewater treatment plant, up to 10.8 million dollars, aimed at relieving Baytown's sewer capacity limits by 2008. City officials and residents note sewer inadequacies hinder growth and spark contract losses.

Last day for state primaries early voting ends today
Staff reports note today is the final day to cast early ballots for the March 9 primary with votes remaining in the Democratic presidential primary won by candidates John Kerry Dennis Kucinich Al Sharpton and Lyndon LaRouche. Baytown voters may use Remington Park retirement home 901 W. Baker Rd from 7 am to 7 pm while Chambers County voters can go to Cedar Bayou Courthouse Annex Mont Belvieu Courthouse Annex or the Anahuac County Courthouse from 7 am to 5 pm. Local races include U S Congressional District 2 State Senate District 6 Harris County Sheriff Harris County Constable Precinct 3 Chambers County Sheriff and Precincts 4 and 6.

Monument Awards honor Millennium Reconditioning as small business of the year
Millennium Reconditioning, a BAYTOWN A construction firm led by Luke Morgan, won the Monument Award for small business of the year from Lee College's Small Business Development Center. The firm grew sales from 1.4 million to 4.2 million in two years by client-focused design through final inspection. Pappy's Bar-B-Que and Holloway's Photography were rising stars finalists. 1st Metropolitan Mortgage won the rising star award and opened a Crosby branch in 2002 with nine staff.
