5A split conference format approved for football realignment
Statewide 5A superintendents approved a 144 to 77 vote to adopt a split conference format for 2018 2020 football realignment. Teams will be placed by enrollment in divisions for the entire period reducing playoff based shifts and potentially increasing travel for some districts. Goose Creek REL welcomes the change as the only 5A in its district while Barbers Hill Crosby and GCM weigh travel and equity implications. Additionally boards approved restoring allowable tournaments and meets across all sports except football.
