A powerful damaging cold front crept across Texas threatening widespread crop and vegetation losses. Forecasters warned of freezing temperatures near five degrees in the Panhandle and killing frost for most areas by Wednesday morning. Washington March 2 Republican National Chairman Hall said he could not back McCarthy’s plan to attack Army generals fighting communism. McCarthy signaled a proposal for special labor camps for suspected Communists in the Army, aiming to label them clearly. Stevens, the Army secretary, is slated to testify before McCarthy’s Permanent Investigation subcommittee, with dates set for Thursday or next Monday. Mitchell accused McCarthy of eclipsing President Eisenhower as the GOP’s top figure amid the clash over loyalty discharges and McCarthy’s criticism of Army officers.

Another theft occurred when Mrs. Austin at 3120 Ohio tested simple circumstances for a billfold containing $29 at Weingarten's supermarket.

Police pursue two youths seen driving away in an old Chevrolet with a bright tail light after racks disappeared from Nu Gulf Cafe and three other Bay Town sites. One rack taken from each of Burney's Drive In and Allen Rice's station, three from the drive in. Red Top Cab Car manager J C Martin identified the thieves to officers Ry Turner and Alvin Tstre.
Cedar Bayou voters in the Cedar Bayou Baytown school district consolidation election must file affidavits asserting bona fide residence. Election Judge Glenn W. Wilson said all voters at Cedar Bayou box must sign. Baytown residents vote in their usual boxes. Qualifications include age 21, US citizenship, one year in state, six months in county, permanent district residency, and pre-1954 poll tax payment or exemption. Residence rules follow Texas Election Code, with no minimum time in district.
Ronald Hartman, a Milwaukee youth, travelled to Baytown on Monday seeking his father Ray Hartman who moved there six months ago. Ray, once in Houston police fingerprint division, is believed to be renting a room and may be working as a salesman. Contact Tim Baytown with any information.
A new bridge over Taylors Bayou on Highway 73 seven miles west of Port Arthur opened to traffic. Marshall Formby of the state highway commission spoke at dedication as part of Southeast Texas momentum toward a Houston Port Arthur superhighway. Veteran supporters Mills Jackson and Busch also spoke at the ceremony.
A H Bynum Sr. a former Baytown real estate man died last Saturday at a relative's home in Wells after a heart attack. He came to Baytown in 1933 as a manager for a 4 and 20 store, later stayed in real estate until ill health. Survived by son A H Bynum Jr. of Baytown, four daughters G A Sartor Dan Coleman Pate Barley Eva Barlow, eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Crockett Monday.
Washington reports an anti Puerto Rican group linked to violence in the House of Representatives. Five congressmen were wounded in a dramatic gun assault as security tightened nationwide. Puerto Rican officials and federal agents probe possible communist connections amid the shocking attack.
Locked in in the District of umbia jail and charged with as sault with intent to murder were Mrs. Lolita Lebron, 44, Rafael Cancel Miranda, 25, Andres Figu eroga Cordero, 29, and Irving Flores Rodriguez, 27, all of New York. Each was held in $100,000 bond for a hearing March 10. Police said they are members of
Tanita Lebron, the Puerto Rican nationalist leader, warned that further raids by the group are planned and said Puerto Rico must be free. She spoke at police headquarters after the shooting aimed at Congressmen and Senators, denying Communist involvement and denying personal fealty to any victims. The group, all from New York, includes Rafael Cancel Miranda, 25, who referred to the House as the Senate. Lebron, once known as Mrs. Anderson Peraz, appeared defiant in a gray suit and green scarf.
Three World Fair Inc employees filed a bankruptcy petition in federal court claiming the company owes them more than $100,000. World Fair officials were unavailable for comment.
