CCBS Credited With 1986 Record Vote
Concerned Citizens for Better Schools ran a major drive in March 1986 that helped defeat a $6.3 million school bond proposed for FM 1942, drawing a record turnout and spending over $4,000. In April CCBS backed incumbents Earl Boykin and Mike Hargrave in a board election, with funding over $1,000, while campaigning without a firm stance on single member districts. Ray Mendoza, president, notes internal differences and outlines CCBS plans including scholarships, SAT tutoring, teacher training, and cultural events, plus an August fund-raiser aiming for $3,000 to support future school initiatives.
