Funeral service Wednesday for Smith
A Baytown man who spent his retirement protecting an Audubon Society bird sanctuary has died. Chester Emrow Smith, 90, known as Pop and the Audubon warden for Sundown Island off Port O’Conner, died June 26 in a Baytown hospital after a career at Exxon refinery and a World War II service in the Army Air Corps. Born in Port O’Conner, he graduated from Baytown’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1938.
