Wednesday marks a major industry shift as Humble Oil Baytown Refinery leads a nationwide change from hard ABS to biodegradable LAS detergents. LAS reduces foam in waterways and cleans as well, aided by new biodegradable processes and a separate Gulf region paraffin unit joining Humble’s Baytown Chemical Plant by July 1 1965.

Baytonian to Receive National Honor at AMA Convention
Baytons man John J. Drasal will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award in Medical Technology at the American Medical Technologists seventh annual convention in Chicago at the LaSalle Hotel. Drasal, a Baytown Refinery technologist, has long served AMT since 1947 and has held roles in state society work. He studied at Johns Hopkins and Union Memorial Hospitals and completed training in New York and Bogota.

Barsalou Returns to Humble Refinery in Houston Realignment
J R Barsalou, Baytown native long associated with Humble, is reassigned to Houston Manufacturing Division duties and will oversee fuels, specialties and maintenance at Baytown Refinery. He reports to Meier starting Monday with backers in the community praising his return. Barsalou, born in Norman Oklahoma, graduated in chemical engineering in 1926 from the University of Oklahoma and joined Humble that year. He has held technical and managerial roles at Baytown before joining Humble's Houston division in 1982. He is married to Madelie Caldwell with four sons and two daughters, including Trey, 2, and David, 21, attending the University of Texas.
