Ward Road rehab eyed as cheaper alternative to full rebuild

Baytown officials consider a Ward Road project to extend road life for at least a decade. Public Works Director Frank Simoneaux says a full reconstruction could cost about 12 million, but a lighter plan with resurfacing, medians, lighting and stamped concrete could total around 665 thousand. The plan mimics Garth Road upgrades with fewer plantings and enhanced lighting, raising the road by about three inches.

Gulf Coast Protection District Created by Governor Signature

Gov. Greg Abbott signs Senate Bill 1160 creating the Gulf Coast Protection District with immediate effect. The district includes Harris, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, and Orange counties and enables funding for a proposed 26 billion Ike Dike coastal barrier through taxes and bonds. Deputies seize nearly $1 million in traffic stop

Chambers County deputies halted a Ford F-250 near mile marker 814 at about 2 p.m. Wednesday and recovered 888,050 dollars in suspected drug proceeds after a canine unit assisted by Jefferson County. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne confirmed the seizure and ongoing investigation.
