Bill to extend bracero program debated in House
A proposed extension by Rep. E C Gathings would keep bracero labor available through December 31, 1966. Gathings warned that limiting workers could raise food prices, and his measure caps braceros at 150,000 in 1964, 120,000 in 1965, and 90,000 in 1966 with a ceiling tied to recent averages. The House recently rejected a two year extension.
