Obituary of Washington in 1800 Ulster County Gazette
In Austin a family cherishes a copy of the Ulster County Gazette from January 4, 1800 containing George Washington's obituary. The single sheet paper, preserved though yellowed, notes Washington’s burial at Mount Vernon on December 14, 1799 with a lead describing solemn funeral honors and the nation’s loss. The owner may loan it to libraries for display.
