About 16,000 Chrysler workers were idled by wildcat strikes across Detroit and related plants as a CIO Local 735 walkout expanded after a Friday meeting. The action followed a Wednesday protest over an eight cent hourly pay demand, with tensions rising between workers and union leaders who urged a return to work.
Police responded to a 2:27 am disturbance on Missouri Street as lovers parked and horns blared for weeks. Residents complained and officers ordered the pair to move and not return to the area.
In Oak Addition Friday a trash fire spread to an adjoining lawn destroying a small storage house used as a laundry and damaging two nearby buildings. Christine Burton owned the storage house. Stella Robertson owned the others and admitted starting the fire to burn crab shells. No personal property was reported damaged by Joan Armstrong’s occupied unit.

The Indian Red Cross has asked the U S government for permission to act as intermediary in a prisoner exchange involving three former American soldiers and two Belgians who wish to leave Red China. Peiping would hand them to Indian authorities via Hong Kong once U S clearance is received. Baytown celebrates homegrown Lt Col Jack G. Hester’s promotion to full colonel in the U S Air Force. A Baytown native educated locally, Hester served eight active years including World War II and the Korean War era, later holding roles from ordnance work to the Pentagon and Warner Robins. He and wife Col and their two daughters reside at 201 West James, Baytown, with Hester in Humble Oil’s Research and Development Division.
Lae Bros Off Co of Houston drills a wildcat well on land owned by Mrs Lee Lloyd and Miss Katie Meyers two miles north of Highlands. The Meyers Estate No 1 in the Reuben White survey reached 9509 feet with contract depth expected next week. Location is about a half mile east of Crosby Lynchburg Road.

In New Orleans a night club owner Joseph Alymerico shot and killed Rodney Gares, 20, son of police sergeant Paul Gares, during a gun battle that erupted near Alymerico’s home on Canal Street early Saturday. Alymerico was critically wounded after a lavender Cadillac arrival. Two youths reportedly attempted a robbery as two other men watched from a sedan.
