Lawmaker pushes safety enforcement on workers comp
Texas lawmaker Rep. Lloyd Criss urges Attorney General Jim Mattox to urge the State Board of Insurance to enforce a 1973 rule requiring accident prevention programs for workers compensation customers. Criss cites 1985 figures of 968 job deaths and 455,470 injuries, arguing the board lacks power to mandate safety or inspect workplaces. Olson counters that the board has no such authority but will act within its statutory powers to promote safer Texas workplaces.
