Baytown transforms traffic cabinets into mini murals citywide
District 4 Councilwoman Heather Betancourth spearheaded a program turning ten traffic cabinets into art as part of a beautification effort. The Public Arts Committee, allied with the Baytown Tourism Division and local groups, expanded the project after popularity and launched a Baytown Photo Contest with 242 submissions from 91 photographers.

Black mat added to cap area at San Jacinto River pits
Texas Health and Environment leader Jacquelyn Young notes use of booms and silk curtains to control sediment around the waste pits cap at the San Jacinto site. EPA spokeswoman Jenna Durant cites 4100 square yards of black concrete mat installed over the cap in the northwestern area to stabilize a steep slope. The 2011 cap used 59,000 tons of stone, with ongoing repairs and a multi phase remediation plan targeting 212,000 cubic yards of toxic material and a design phase through July 2020.

Man Arrested on Forgery Charges After Welfare Call
Police responding to a welfare concern found 28-year-old Sylvester Fatheree asleep in a car on Garth Road, Baytown. He had outstanding local warrants and was found with prescription pills and two counterfeit $100 bills, leading to forgery and warrant arrest.

Fight at Whataburger leads to weapon threat and arrests
About eight people fought early Friday at the Whataburger on Interstate 10 in Baytown. Shae Pierre and Jessica Dennis, both 31 and 33 respectively, were accused of assaulting several individuals. Pierre allegedly returned with a handgun and threatened to shoot. Police found them with others in a parking lot and recovered the weapon. Pierre faces aggravated assault charges and Dennis disorderly conduct and public intoxication charges.
