Baytown officials interviewed seven applicants to fill the vacant District 3 council seat. The term expires next May with a July selection aim. Tim Quinton, 53, Pfeiffer and Son VP, praised Baytown’s industry, schools, and parks and hinted at running in 2005.
Environmental Integrity Project and Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention released a report criticizing the EPA for weakening monitoring and yielding inaccurate toxic air emissions data. They argue industrial self reports vastly understate actual pollutants, as regulators and industry dispute the methodology. The timing coincided with the EPA’s forthcoming Toxic Release Inventory release.

Lee College presents a three day Mexican American culture event in collaboration with UF and Nuestra Palabra. The kickoff starts at 6 p.m. in Tucker Hall tonight with further sessions 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and June 30 at the Baytown Historical Museum. Admission is free and open to the public.
Chambers County commissioners voted unanimously to adopt a mailbox installation policy addressing road speed curb and breakaway post requirements. The change aims to reduce collisions on high speed roads and clarifies driveway culvert standards amid new development.
