Baytown ties appear on archdiocese abuse list
The Archdiocese of Galveston Houston added four priests to its list of credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors from 1950 to 2018. Two served in Baytown area parishes including St Joseph in Baytown and St Jude in Highlands. Barzyk retired 1993 and died 2007. Leduc served at St Joseph Baytown and died 1981. The diocese stresses credible allegations, not criminal convictions, with ongoing additions planned.

Two Baytown Men Die In Separate Weekend Accidents
San Antonio police provided details of two fatal weekend incidents in Baytown. Jesus Planas, 29, died after a motorcycle collision on Garth Road the motorcycle lacked lights or plate and a Chrysler turning left caused the crash. A 34 year old Baytown man drowned Sunday afternoon in an apartment pool at 99 West Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Road. he was with family before becoming unresponsive at the pool bottom.

ExxonMobil wins as US drops appeal over WWII Baytown cleanup
The U S government abandoned its appeal of a 16 2 million award to ExxonMobil in the Fifth Circuit New Orleans after a district judge found the government liable for part of the cleanup at the Baytown site tied to WWII aviation fuel and rubber production and similarly for the Korean War ExxonMobil spokesperson Aaron Stryk said the drop supports the companys recovery The government offered no reason for dropping the appeal and argued the case should have been brought earlier under the wrong statute of limitations
