Yuma Highs Crack Up Over The Criminals Nickname
A Chicago Tribune report details Yuma High School in Arizona adopting the nickname the Criminals. The piece notes origins from 1913 when Phoenix teams mocked Yuma after a loss, official adoption in 1917, and campus symbols like a ball and chain sculpture and a prison‑break siren after scores. It also mentions a podium joke about numbers and depictions, and quotes from the sheriff about staff origins.
