U S Cracks Down On Federal Leases
Washington reports the Interior Department moved to halt small federal land oil and gas leases by requiring future leases be at least 640 acres unless unusual circumstances. Agencies noted a surge of 40 acre five year lease requests and warned firms against misrepresenting small leases for fees. The rule aims to deter breaking large leases into small tracts for sale.
