Universal health care study cites lower costs nationwide

A panel led by public and private leaders from the National Coalition on Health Care says universal coverage could cut health care spending by 320 billion to 1.1 trillion over a decade and reduce cost shifting, billing inefficiencies, and inequities while expanding access for the uninsured. The report, backed by former presidents Bush Ford and Carter, outlines four plan options and urges Congress and the president to act, warning piecemeal fixes could raise costs and leave 45 million Americans uninsured.
