Houston School Board selects Bank of the Southwest for depository
In a secret 4-3 vote the Houston School Board awarded a $50 million depository contract to Bank of the Southwest at 6.35 percent per annum versus 6.44 percent from First City National Bank, a $22,000 revenue loss calculation. Board members Eckels and Smith defended keeping the district’s money with Bank of the Southwest, which has held the contract since 1959. First City's attorney said statutes require the best bid but a contest seems unlikely.
