Shallow-water shark attacks strike Oak Island youths
Two youths were seriously injured in separate shark attacks at Oak Island North Carolina on a single weekend. A 12 year old Asheboro girl lost part of her arm and leg while a 16 year old Colorado Springs boy lost his left arm. Both survived after quick bystander aid and rapid medical evacuation. Authorities described a chaotic scene and debated possible mandatory evacuations while warning beachgoers to stay out of the water. The incidents prompted the cancellation of a surf camp as officials review safety measures.
