Lions Club speaker cites new laws on child beating
Assistant Harris County District Attorney Sam Robertson told Baytown Lions Club members of two new state laws aimed at prosecuting child abuse. One law exempts doctors from liability for reporting injuries to children, the other allows spouses to testify as competent witnesses. Robertson described brutal cases, noted prosecutions rising, and warned of the difficulty in cases without deadly weapons. He showed photos of maimed children and recounted a case where a mother endured coercion while her husband beat their son.
