$200 Million To Be Asked For H-Bomb
The Atomic Energy Commission plans to seek authority from Congress to spend about $200 million on a large scale H-bomb production project. The plan calls for new reactors to produce tritium, a heavy hydrogen, by bombarding lithium with neutrons. Tritium production may reuse Hanford piles, and the reactors could later aid plutonium or explosive uranium-233 production. Details likely in closed congressional sessions.
