Baytown mourns WWI hero Keene buried at Earthman Memory Gardens
The highly decorated WWI soldier Keene, born in Crockett and later living in Baytown with his wife, is buried at Earthman Memory Gardens. A history buff and youngest American combatant on French soil, he earned the Medal of Honor in 1940 among multiple honors including the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He led troops at Belleau Wood, Soissons, and the Marne, and his lineage traces to Southern General Stonewall Jackson.
