Harris County Flood Control District allocates 1.2 million for concrete-lined ditches and underground channels in McNair. Construction began in March with a planned October end, weather permitting. Crews from Ramos Industries Inc. work on Wade Road to Harlem Street, joining an underground channel toward Harrison Road, draining toward a Goose Creek tributary. The system will run east to west about a mile north of I 10 and increase drainage capacity by about 50 percent, benefiting McNair and a nearby unincorporated area.
Three men ages 18 29 and 38 led a chain of police pursuit from Chambers County onto I 10 and Loop 610 after burglarizing a convenience store at FM 1405 and FM 565. The chase reached 100 mph ending when parked on Lockwood Drive where canine units and a helicopter helped arrest them.
Tuesday's thunderstorms caused outages in Crosby and Highlands. A downed tree knocked out a Crosby circuit leaving about 1,000 residents without power for 3.5 to 4 hours. A Highlands circuit affected roughly 1,200 people, with power restored after 30 minutes to an hour.
