First tropical low in 2006 Caribbean headed toward Florida
A tropical low mood formed in the Caribbean nine days after the season began and could become Alberto if it reaches tropical storm strength. It was near 35 mph winds, centered west of Cuba, moving north-northwest toward the Yucatan Channel and toward Florida. Forecasts warned of heavy rain and possible landfall between South Florida and the Panhandle, with warnings for parts of Cuba and Florida Keys. Scientists predict up to 16 named storms in 2006, six major hurricanes.
