Officials monitor rising San Jacinto River level near Lake Houston

Officials watch potential flooding as San Jacinto River level at Lake Houston dam nears 46.93 feet, about 1.4 feet above spillway. No reports of high water or assistance requests were received by Highlands Fire Department or Harris County Sheriff Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Flood waters drive evacuations near Splendora Texas

About 160 families return to homes near Splendora in Montgomery County after rising creek waters forced evacuations. Firefighters using boats evacuated residents from two subdivisions near Peach Creek while rescue workers watched the east fork of the San Jacinto River rise in Casey Ridge.

United Way Allocations Meet to Review 1987 Funding

United Way Board will consider Allocations Committee recommendations for 1987 funds after a series of agency meetings. Initial requests total 904,513, up 5.7 percent from 1986. Baytown Trails 1985 Pace in Sales Tax Revenue

Baytown falls behind its 1985 sales tax pace this year with 0.83 percent collected in 1986. Harris County cities show a 4 percent drop from last year while Baytown ranks third behind Houston and Pasadena in tax receipts. Anahuac and Old River-Winfree post gains amid countywide totals. Liberty County shows a dip in receipts.

Harris County awards 255 809 North Main lane contract

Harris County Commissioners Court awards Ray Smith Construction Inc. of Houston a 255 809 dollar contract to build a continuous left turn lane on North Main between Baker and Cedar Bayou roads. The project will take about 40 working days, roughly two months, with start mid July and completion about October.

Fuller appointed new pastor at Grace Methodist Church

The Rev. Dewey Fuller is the new senior minister at Grace United Methodist Church at 304 N. Pruett succeeding retiree Rev. Harold Fagan after 46 years in service. A Longview native, Fuller previously led Spring Woods United Methodist Church for 20 years and holds degrees from Judson High School Lon Morris College Centenary College and Perkins School of Theology.
