Singer Vikki Carr awards 5500 in scholarships
Los Angeles AP reports singer Vikki Carr has donated 5500 in scholarships to nine outstanding Mexican American students. The grand winner is David Luna, 21, of Azusa, who will study law at Harvard. Eight others receive 500 dollars each, including Alfred Nieto, 21, aiming for kidney or liver research. Carr emphasizes education as the path out of poverty and plans broader outreach nationwide.
