Baytonian Deacon Jones Traces Highlands History
Baytonian historian Deacon Jones traced Highlands origins from 1751 to 1772, recounting Spanish friars crossing the San Jacinto River, land grants on both riverbanks, and the area's evolution from rice fields to a growing town. The piece covers White and Tyrell families, the 1920s railroad line, incipient townsite development, and later industrial shifts toward canning, cotton, and rubber plants.
