Twelve Ross Sterling High School girls will attend Texas Bluebonnet Girls State via American Legion Auxiliary Post 323. Leaders include Shannon Sartor, Emily Hackney, Nicole Beck, and Amy Olsen, each noted for NHS roles, dance, community service, and plans for postsecondary study.
Edmeade Sherla Edmeade of Robert E Lee and Megan Renee Adams of Goose Creek Memorial will attend Girls State this summer representing their schools. Also Sarah Rosser of Robert E Lee will participate. All three hold multiple leadership roles, honors, and community service records.
Amie Magallon daughter of Lisa and Alejandro Magallon will represent Robert E Lee High School at Bluebonnet Girls State. She is a National Honor Society member and a three year Key Club and French Club participant. She served as Key Club president for 2008 09 and worked with Baytown Kiwanis. She volunteers with Gator Bike Ride Baytown Trash Off Relay for Life Baytown Ike Relief and Special Olympics. She starts a third varsity tennis season and plays in USTA League. She will attend John Newcombe Tennis Ranch for a second time this summer and graduates in May 2009 in the top ten percent of her class planning to study law and political science.
Tara Kennedy of Robert E. Lee High School Bluebonnet Girls State is a top ten student, NHS member, club secretary for Lee Crime Stoppers and co-captain elect for the 2009 10 varsity cheer squad. Amy Brewer of Goose Creek School shows leadership as student body secretary Interact president and yearbook editor. Sydney Warren of Barbers Hill High School earns state representation and serves as student council president with NHS Anchor Club Crime Stoppers Spanish Club and Club Green historian.
Carolyn Linebaugh daughter of Dan and Joan Linebaugh will participate in Girls State as a Baytown Christian Academy senior ranked in the top ten of her class. She is a National Honor Society member and has been named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. She has two leadership programs and has visited Florida Washington DC and will travel to London and Paris to develop leadership skills. She has volunteered at Houston Food Pantry Pregnancy Resource Center UNICEF Baytown Homeless Shelter and Reach for the Stars while participating in Key Club soccer tennis volleyball choir and drama.
Navy Seaman Recruit Tamara M. Lewis, daughter of Lisa M. Stevens of Baytown and Harry L. Lewis of Crosby, finished eight weeks of boot camp at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. The program covered naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety, ship and aircraft safety, and intense physical fitness culminating in Battle Stations. Lewis, a 2002 Ross S. Sterling High School graduate, joins the fleet with core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.
Allen and Judy Dunn celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary on June 8. Joe Connealy marks another birthday on June 19. Carolyn Merritt completes another trip around the sun.
