Seniors keep social life as First Westminster Center closes
Baytown seniors will lose the First Westminster Presbyterian Church program on July 31 but can still join activities at the Baytown Senior Center in the city’s community center on Market Street. Dozens attend weekly dances, exercise, bingo, and luncheons run by volunteers who fund expenses with quilt and bingo card sales. The center, donated space and utilities by the parks and recreation department, hosts book signings and offers access to Sterling Municipal Library donations. For details call 281-420-5735 or contact Lynne Foley at 281-425-6416.

Seniors Face Center Closure Over Transportation Costs
The First Church senior center weighs closing its day program as monthly losses of 4,000 to 5,000 exceed state reimbursements. Volunteers will still run Meals on Wheels, but many elderly patrons fear losing daily social contact and transport to essential activities. Local officials and residents urge support as efforts to boost membership and funding continue.
